OpenGavel is a non-profit venture to provide free online access to the text of court decisions. The project was inspired by the open source, open content, and open access movements, as well as a belief that the current system of commercialized distribution of public court documents inadequately serves the public and adds unnecessary cost to legal services. OpenGavel's focus is on providing a free repository of data containing the full text of court decisions in a metadata rich standardized format.
The repository currently holds a test group of 106 court decisions.
